When the 2015 NPSA Resale EXPO begins on September 16 in New Orleans, it will mark the sixth time the NPSA has hosted this biennial event. Although the EXPO has it's roots in California, like the city that will play host, it has become somewhat a melting pot, bringing together interesting educational sessions as well as some of the best entertainment and networking you could hope for.
Toulouse & Bourbon, minutes by foot from our hotel!
Let's start with the history of this great event. In the late 1990's Phil Herndon, Anders Norlin, Steve Harrington and other NSPA members regularly attended the Intermodal/IANA EXPO but always had trouble finding/connecting with their colleagues in the container industry who made up only a fraction of the IANA attendees. They decided to test the waters and see if the other container traders and portable storage operators might want have their own meeting at the bar in the Marriott hotel in Atlanta during the IANA EXPO. It worked, the place was packed! The networking was mind boggling and the rest is history.
They started the Resale EXPO as a ‘grass roots' campaign in 2001. Hosting the event in Napa they decided on a heavy emphasis on entertainment. Early events included taking the group of 165 to a wine tasting at the famous Clos du Bois vineyard and going to dinner at the Culinary Institute of America in Napa Valley.
In 2005, the NPSA took over the event and held the NPSA Resale EXPO in Monterrey, CA. Taking its cues from what was expected, it was two days of educational sessions punctuated by evenings of fun and frivolity. Many will remember the amazing cocktail reception at the Monterrey Bay Aquarium as being an NPSA reception highlight.
Since then, the EXPO has moved around a little bit but has consistently been a well planned guiding event for those in the container industry. The information and educational sessions are geared towards the forecasting of the container supply in the US and Canada from a resellers point of view for the next two years.
This year, you can expect much of the same. We have already secured the Le Westin Canal Place, just steps from the French Quarter with a lot of Southern charm. The NPSA Speaker Committee is on the search for fantastic speakers, the NPSA Conference Committee is narrowing down off site venues for a one of a kind New Orleans evening and we are getting geared up for this wonderful event in a beautiful city this September 16- 18. Please look for registration information in the next newsletter, emails and postcards. Look forward to seeing you there!
